I've heard that there's new news about personal QR codes for receiving payments. Is that true?

Yes, it is. There has been a lot of concern about whether personal QR codes for receiving payments will still be usable after March 1st. Today, finally, there is fresh news. The China Payment and Clearing Association has provided the latest clarification on this issue, and I'm here to share it with you all today.

In recent days, I believe many friends have been very worried. If personal QR codes for receiving payments are not allowed to be used after March 1st, how will businesses receive payments, and how will consumers make payments? It is indeed a very important issue. A few days ago, I also produced several episodes addressing these issues consecutively and received support and recognition from everyone.

What we are going to talk about today is the latest news we have received, which is that the China Payment and Clearing Association has clearly stated that the current personal QR codes for receiving payments will "not be shut down, not be discontinued, and their functions will remain unchanged." This statement undoubtedly gives us all a "reassurance."

However, in the document, it is also mentioned that personal business QR codes for receiving payments will be introduced in the future. What does this mean?

I believe that this approach is entirely to adapt to the related requirements of the central bank on payment acceptance last year, and the changes made accordingly. The personal business QR codes for receiving payments that are now being introduced are products specifically developed and designed for the majority of operators. I believe their functions will be more powerful and more suitable for most small and micro businesses.

This means that for a long time in the future, everyone can freely choose to use the existing "personal QR codes for receiving payments" and the upcoming "personal business QR codes for receiving payments." Speaking of which, everyone can rest assured. Even after March 1st, the personal QR codes for receiving payments currently in use can continue to be used without any impact. Of course, the most important thing is what everyone cares about the most: they are completely free of charge. Will WeChat and Alipay be affected?

In response to this question, I also saw the responses from WeChat and Alipay in the first place, and they both provided the same statement. WeChat stated that after March 1st, they will combine the user's receipt situation and will gradually send out invitations through WeChat receipt assistant messages and other means. They will provide personal business receipt codes, free material code plates, and various other services on a voluntary basis for users.

Alipay, on the other hand, was more direct, stating that after March 1st, users can directly apply to upgrade to a personal business receipt code. Moreover, whether before or after the upgrade, users can continue to use it for free.

From the statements of the China Payment Association and related payment platforms, I personally believe that it is to actively respond to the People's Bank of China's Document No. 259 in October last year.

On the one hand, it is the requirement of regulation, and on the other hand, it is the urgent needs and practical difficulties of the vast number of users. The policy of continuing to use personal receipt codes while adding personal business receipt codes is also a very good balance between the two, which is commendable.

However, there are still a few doubts that need to be resolved. Will personal receipt codes and personal business receipt codes coexist in the long term? Or is there a transitional period, that is, after a period of time, will businesses with obvious business characteristics all need to upgrade to commercial receipt codes? And how should this obvious business characteristic be identified? These issues, I believe, will be addressed with more detailed and clear policies by our relevant departments in the near future. We can look forward to it, and let's talk about the future when it comes.
